Scout Group

Information pack for new joiners

Welcome to 8th Macclesfield (St Paul’s) Scout Group
This welcome pack will hopefully answer any questions that you may have regarding the Scout Association and our Group.
Each section is run by a volunteer leader with a 3-year cyclical programme. To ensure achieving the highest awards for each section, you should attend all meetings, activities and events. If your child fails to attend some meetings, it means they could be missing out on top awards that will cause difficulty in joining in District, County, National or international sponsored events.
The group is a charity organisation and run by unpaid volunteers.
Monthly payments are used to cover insurance, hall rental costs and consumables used by activities. Please sign up for gift aid to help us fundraise for the group.
Online Scout Manager (OSM) is where you can find information about activities, events, consents and badge progress. You will get invited via e-mail. Please scroll down on how to use OSM.
Most other communications take place through a private WhatsApp community group, which you will be invited to join via your phone number once confirmed in OSM
Do please read the rest of the information pack before your young person starts with the group so that you understand the aims and objectives of Scouting.
Our usual meeting place is the Community Centre of St Paul’s Church , Glegg Street.

OSM is our primary platform for sharing event details and collecting responses. Timely replies are necessary to confirm your child’s place on activities, as spaces may be limited.
Accurate and up-to-date information is vital for us to ensure your child’s safety and wellbeing—particularly regarding medical needs, allergies, emergency contacts, adventurous activities, and nights away.
Emails will come from – [email protected]

Welcome to Beavers, Cubs and Scouts

Scouting is an International Movement with over 28 million members worldwide, spread through 216 countries and territories. (Please note the uniform and badges on the picture are not UK standard and just for illustration purposes)
The number of countries recognising the values of Scouting and accepting its principles is increasing and there are only a few countries in the World who do not offer Scouting to Young People.
The Scout Association in the UK accepts Members of all major faiths and offers equal opportunities for all genders no matter what their social, religious or ethnic background may be.
There are several important things, which make Scouting different from many other youth organisations:
- We are a uniformed Movement
- We use ‘Sixes’ and ‘Patrols’ of about 6 young people to who work together, learning from and supporting each other
- We involve young people in decision making as part of their development.
To help young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential
as individuals, as responsible citizens and as Members of their local, national and
international communities
Scouting has a simple and positive promise that is required to be made by all members. The Promise together with the Scout Law,
gives a distinctive ethos to the practices of the Movement and acts as a bond with Scouts in other countries.
The three key principles are:
- Duty to self
- Duty to god
- Duty to others
Everyone in Scouting expresses their membership and acceptance of the three key principles by taking the Promise and following the Scout Law. Beaver Scouts and Cub Scouts have their own special Promise and Law, suitable for their age range.
Scouts Promises
The general Scouts Association follows Scout Purple and is recognised worldwide.
Each section has a designated colour scheme.
– Cubs Blue
– Cubs Green
– Scouts Teal
